The Parent Engagement Division of Student Services welcomed parents and educators to La Sierra University in Riverside, CA for the 1st annual Parents as Champions Conference.  Parents were challenged to “Imagine the Possibilities”. Parent involvement is crucial for the success of every student. A quote from Richard L. Evans describes the importance of parent involvement: “Children will not remember you for the material things you provided, but for the feeling that you cherished them.”

Cassandra Willis, District Coordinator for Student and Family Support, sees the event as the beginning of a continuous effort to assist parents in supporting their children. In her greeting, she wrote: “It is our desire that today you will be Motivated to be an active participant in your child’s life, be Educated on the best ways to help your child, and leave feeling empowered to Initiate new programs that will increase parental engagement at the school sites you represent.”

Parents had access to numerous resources and attended workshops, offered in both English and Spanish, that focused on parent engagement and topics such as cyber bullying, college preparation, suicide awareness, parenting and more.
