I hope that you had a rewarding and enjoyable break and that you are ready for new challenges and opportunities in the new school year. Welcome back families of returning students and welcome to families and staff members new to CNUSD! Due to CNUSD’s very own job fair drawing thousands of candidates from all over the country, we were able to recruit over 200 exceptionally qualified and experienced teachers and support staff.

We welcome the 2016-17 school year with optimism and enthusiasm as we continue to implement the programs outlined in our Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP), which serves as the blueprint for all that we do at CNUSD. Together with the community, CNUSD’s LCAP was created to identify annual goals, specific actions, and measure progress for student subgroups across multiple performance indicators including student academic achievement, school climate, student access to a broad curriculum, and parent engagement. To learn more about our LCAP, please visitwww.cnusd.k12.ca.us/lcap

Over the summer parents should have received their child’s state test scores (CAASPP). To learn more about what these scores mean to your child’s progress, please visitwww.cnusd.k12.ca.us/assessment . While assessments are just one of many ways to monitor student progress, we are pleased to announce that our preliminary District data indicates we nearly doubled the county-wide growth average in English Language Arts and Math. These notable gains point to the tireless efforts of our teachers, students, support staff, administrators and parents.

At CNUSD we understand the critical importance that partnership between family and school means to student success. We are very excited to welcome parents and families to the new CNUSD Parent Center located at 152 East 6th Street in Corona. The Parent Center is a critical component in the District’s LCAP and hopes to establish a centralized center for parents to access college and career pathways, academic support, interventions, parent information workshops/trainings, support for parent involvement, and mentorship resources. Learn more about the parent center here.

Another exciting aspect of this school year is phase one of our Measure GG construction projects. In November of 2014 voters approved the $396 million dollar general obligation bond. The passage of this bond measure creates far-reaching, positive educational opportunities for our students today and for generations to come. As a school district, we will roll up our sleeves and go about the work we have always done — to create hope, opportunity, and a better future for all students. To stay updated on the latest information regarding Measure GG projects, please visit www.cnusd.k12.ca.us/measuregg.

To continue to stay connected with CNUSD employees, students, families and community members, we are excited to present our District news site featuring updates and articles about everything from student recognition to district events: http://news.cnusd.net . I also encourage you to follow us on Twitter @CNUSD and “Like” us at Facebook.com/CNUSD. Your support of our schools is appreciated as we work together to provide the best education to our students each and every day.

I look forward to working with you in achieving what we all want for students — success beyond their years here at CNUSD. Together we will continue to strive for excellence and deliver the very best education for our students.
