12-11-2017 – Eastvale – Meet Calvin Heng! He is a senior at Eleanor Roosevelt High School (ERHS).

Calvin lived in Long Beach until he was five years old and then moved to Eastvale.

He interns for the Communications Office at the Corona-Norco Unified School District (CNUSD).

“I wanted to intern at the Communications Office because I wanted to be more in-touch and involved in my community,” he said, “The Communications Office allows me to do things that involve my community/district.”

His favorite part about interning has been working side-by-side with the Communications Office staff.

“I thought I would feel like an outcast when I first got here, but all of them really made me feel welcomed and part of the team,” said Calvin, “I’m so glad I chose this department because I know it wouldn’t be the same if I chose differently.”

His favorite subject is English.

“To be more specific, writing,” he said, “I just love writing because it gets my mind off of the stresses in life. I basically just get lost in my writing and it seems like nothing else can bother me when I’m in the zone.”

He is involved in Link Crew at ERHS.

“Link Crew is basically a team of sophomores, juniors, and seniors that help freshmen during their orientation and every Wednesday with school and just life in general,” said Calvin.

His dream career has always been to become a Weatherman. He has always been really intrigued with the weather and how it works.

“I also just like being infront of a camera,” he said.

After graduating from high school, Calvin plans to attend Cal Poly Pomona and major in Hospitality Management.

“The campus is also really nice and I have heard good things about the school,” he said.

Calvin is most excited for receiving his college acceptance letter.

“Just seeing that will be my reassurance I’m on the right path and all the hard work was all worth it,” he said.

Success is what keeps Calvin motivated.

“Striving for success has always pushed me over those big road blocks in life,” he said, “Just knowing that there’s something on the other side of the road block pushes me to over come that road block. It’s motivation for me to keep going to reach my end goal in life.”

Calvin always gives 100 percent to whatever he puts his mind too.

“If I don’t put my all into everything that comes my way, I will never achieve my end goal,” he said.

One of his favorite hobbies is to thrift shop.

“I really love shopping for clothes and thrifting allows me to shop consistently without spending too much money,” he said, “My favorite part of thirfting is that it is fun to do with friends.”

Calvin advices his younger classmates to enjoy the journey and take in every moment.

“Just remember to have fun and just enjoy high school and life in general. When they say it’s going to go by fast, it really does,” he said, “Savor every experience and moment you have had. Make the most of every situation and leave your mark.”

A difficult challenge for Calvin is time management.

“I’m really awful at time management and it always bites me in the back,” he said, “I’m just not that good at spacing out my time in a productive way.”

Interning at the Communications Office has helped Calvin better manage his time.

“I have to make sure that I’m always here on time and finish projects given to me by a certain time or date,” he said.
