On Friday August 5, 2016, Ronald Reagan Elementary had their very first Watch D.O.G.S. kick off pizza night for dads and dad-like figures and their Reagan students. The night was a success with 100 pizzas eaten and well over 400 people in attendance who came to learn how they could become more involved in their children’s lives at Reagan. “We look forward to getting to know these dads, uncles, grandfathers, and big brothers as we begin this exciting program at our school. Go Wranglers!”
Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) is an innovative father involvement, educational initiative of the National Center For Fathering. The two goals of the program are:
1) To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
2) To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.
Fathers and/or other father like figures in the program volunteer by helping with reading, playing at recess, watch the school entrances and hallways, assist with traffic flow and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students, but other students too.
