6-23-2017 – Corona – Santiago’s young boys golf team impressed in 2017, and, if coach John Lane has his way, things are going to get even better.

The Sharks placed fourth at the CIF-Southern Section Eastern Team Divisional this year. The top two moved on to CIF-SS Finals, and though Santiago didn’t move on, the fact it returns every single golfer next year — and most for two years — bodes well for the program’s future.

For having such success with a young team, Sharks coach John Lane is the HSGameTime All-Area Boys Golf Coach of the Year.

The Sharks turned back a solid King team to win the Big VIII League championship. At the Eastern Divisional, the Sharks displayed great consistency, carding a total of 401 with all six golfers shooting between 78 and 82.

Freshmen Jeffrey Doeve and Ryan Fisher joined sophomores Ethan Wade, Luke Pae and Truman Lee – and junior Ryan Oswalt – to make up the lineup.

Lane was also the HSGT Girls Coach of the Year in the fall.

Great Oak coach Jared Boyatt and Murrieta Valley coach Greg Ireland were also considered for the boys award.
