6-27-2017 – Norco – Norco’s Taylor Dockins and Kinzie Hansen were among the winners as CalHiSports.com revealed its Player of the Year honors for the 2017 high school softball season.

Dockins was chosen Ms. Softball, the award for the overall state player of the year, as she returned from being diagnosed with liver cancer to go 33-1 inside the circle. Dockins finished up her career with 108 pitching wins, a CIF-Southern Section record and the fourth-highest total in state history. Dockins also batted cleanup for the Cougars for most of the season and hit .454 with two homers and 27 runs batted in.

Dockins’ selection means Norco has had the Ms. Softball winner three times over the past six seasons. Emily Lockman was honored in 2012, while Kylie Reed won in 2013. Dockins is the sixth player from the Inland area to be selected as Ms. Softball by CalHiSports.com. The other winners from the area were Leah O’Brien (Chino Don Lugo, 1992), Jessica Hall (Chino Hills Ayala, 2010) and Lauren Sweet (Santiago, 2011).

Hansen was chosen the state’s Sophomore of the Year after batting .456 with three home runs and a team-high 43 runs batted in. Hansen delivered several game-winning RBIs this season, including the semifinal and finals at the Michelle Carew Classic, and was an elite defensive catcher. She was chosen the state’s top freshman in 2016.
